north west for 2012

Blackpool

The five Tourist Boards in England’s North West are working hard to deliver maximum benefits to the region’s visitor economy. The key focus is to use the opportunities afforded by London 2012 to help grow the £15 billion visitor economy in our region.

Specific aims are:

• To take a pro-active approach to securing events during the Cultural Olympiad and beyond to ensure that the region bids for, and wins, high profile events that benefit the visitor economy. The North West is hosting the 2012 Open Golf Championship amongst other major events.

• To maximise opportunities from the staging of Olympic Football at Old Trafford; to promote the ease of international entry to and from the UK from Manchester Airport; to promote the region’s assets including the Lake District and Chester; to promote the strong business tourism offer of Manchester and Liverpool.

• To increase the number of tourism businesses providing world-class standards of service and quality.

• To optimise supply chain opportunities, build skill levels and improve participation in quality standards.
