At 2pm today, in a nationwide musical moment, Blaze Festival will be part of the biggest community event of the London 2012 Festival closing celebration. The Festival Tent at the WE PLAY Expo in Preston will host a very special line up for Bandstand Marathon, joining hundreds of other performers in bandstands all over the UK to perform Coldplay’s Viva la Vida simultaneously, ahead of the band's headline slot at the Closing Ceremony for the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
With beat box grooves and funked up drum’n'bass lines, Bandstand Marathon brings together musicians from across the North West. Featuring the Boom Bike Big Band who've been entertaining crowds all weekend at WE PLAY Expo with their unique hip-hop/jazz mobile performance; The Riot Jazz Brass Band, with a twisted mix of funk, soul, hiphop and jazz; Extra Love – a 10 piece band who fuse reggae, dub and afrobeat for an energetic and uplifting performance; Get Up Stand Up, a group of inner city young people performing musical extracts of their urban drama; and When Yesterday We Met, a choral soundscape led by Bridgewater Hall.
Other Bandstand Marathon events across the North West include:
