The Humble Market is an ambitious fusion of theatre, performance and media art from UK/Brazilian theatre network Zecora Ura and artists Jorge Lopes Ramos, Alastair Eilbeck, James Bailey and Persis Jade Maravala.
Part performance, part experience, The Humble Market is inspired by the spectacular rise of Brazil as an economic power and the trading cities of the North West in the UK and South East in Brazil.
It connects two Olympic host nations through real time interaction between Preston (UK) and Pernambuco (Brazil).
Visitors will embark on a journey through The Humble Market and experience the hustle and bustle of the Rio de Janeiro carnival from a Brazilian taxi, lie back on the grass and contemplate the universe and discover what happens when the impersonal automated voice on the telephone suddenly gets very personal indeed...
Through interactive stalls, tricks and tinkering, The Humble Market challenges notions of theatre and technology as performers and audiences push the borders of urban life, identity and social 'under-standing'. What do we value most when faced with a tyranny of choice and the challenges of global consumerism? Enter The Humble Market to find out....
Tickets are free and timed slots can be booked online now. Please note there is a 50p booking fee per ticket.
The project also includes the Trade Secrets exhibition at FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) in Liverpool, from 22 June - August, part of the London 2012 Festival.
The Humble Market is part of the WE PLAY Expo - a whole weekend of unmissable free events celebrating our region’s unique contribution to London 2012. Everyone’s invited to join the party in Preston 7 – 9 September 2012.
