Cultural Olympiad, WE PLAY

It’s all back to ours to mark the end of the 2012 Games!

The WE PLAY Expo is a whole weekend of unmissable free events celebrating our region’s unique contribution to London 2012. Everyone’s invited to join the party in Preston 7 – 9 September.

The weekend will have a real festival atmosphere featuring exclusive events and big screen broadcasts of the Closing Ceremony and London 2012 handover to Rio 2016.

With eight brand new commissions, programme highlights include:

  • Blaze Festival – an explosive mix of music, sport and urban art created by young people
  • On the Night Shift – don’t miss another chance to see this amazing show which opened the London 2012 Festival with a bang – quite literally! – on Lake Windermere. Don’t just take our word for it; watch a BBC video to see for yourselves.
  • Sacrilege – Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller’s ‘bouncy castle’ take on Stonehenge will appeal to the inner-child in us all!
  • Why We Play – a new documentary looking at sport and culture and what we think about play.
  • Handprint – a living artwork featuring digital handprints uploaded by players in the WE PLAY Challenge. Sign up now and then come and see if you can spot your handprint at the Expo!
  • The Humble Market - an immersive digital performance exploring what happens when Brazil and the UK meet…
  • Emoto - stunning interactive digital displays and a 3D sculpture capturing the worldwide audience response to London 2012

Look out for the latest news and behind the scenes blogs over the summer as we get ready for the Expo. Or browse through the brochure (below) to plan your weekend now!

You can also download our at a glance schedule here.

The WE PLAY Expo kicks off at 7pm on Friday 9 September in the beautiful setting of Avenham & Miller Parks as part of the historic Preston Guild festival.
